I incorporated two of my favorites in here... Stitching and Shrinky Dinks. I found an old British naval alphabet signal flags and spelled out "J U N E" which is cool, but is neither here nor there as to the meaning of the layout.... I like it, it looks festive. And I wanted to do the stitching when I saw the circle, and loved how it looked like rigging against the picture.
I decided to try for TWO layouts on this sketch (from my Creative Sketches, if you didn't see my last post)..... ironically both from Jamestown Settlement; probably the only two I'll do from that portion of our trip. However, they both worked wonderfully with the sketch and really don't look that much like each other, with is good, as they are one-paged layouts and will most likely be facing each other in the scrapbook!

Another sketch from My Creative Sketches. I like the simplicity of this one, just perfect for some Jamestown pictures. I made a mosaic out of some neutral colored papers for the circle background, as a fancy, lacey-cut one didn't seem appropriate. It provided lots of heft for the stitching for a title. The only embellishments that there were room for, were the journaling block, which I cut from a Spellbinder die, and a "miniature flintlock rifle" casting that I got on eBay that was a WHOLE LOT BIGGER than I thought it would be.
Another sketch from My Creative Sketches. Thought this would be perfect for this one as there is not much of a story here. Just a butterfly that landed on Shannon's finger and didn't want to fly away. The really sad thing... I did this all with stuff I had at work without bringing in anything else. Seriously, I am NOT a hoarder!!! Some vacation pictures from our trip to Tennessee. There were so many beautiful landscape photos, that I decided to mosaic them. Unlike the one I did for the Grand Canyon, I decided to add some larger photos to this layout. I love this picture of the two of us. When I got tired and Mark offered to carry me up the mountain path, I was surprised but quick to agree. I asked Shannon to take a photo to document this momentous occasion. However, it is his completely genuine smile that makes me love this photo... as I look a wee bit ridiculous doing my cling-on monkey impersonation. Shannon also took the closeup photo of herself. I haven't mastered the art of a decent selfie yet, but she is the queen of them. Had a hard time narrowing the pictures down for this. I still have a bunch more and may add a couple more pages to this layout. The day was gorgeous and the scenery even more so. I can't wait to go back and do some more hiking. Loved this sketch from My Creative Sketches and decided to apply it to one of my recent vacation pictures. I had lots of fun with the border punches and Spellbinder's Elegant Ovals. What until you see, my Peeps, that I used THREE different patterned papers. sigh... I am growing. I had to modify it a bit to fit to my favorite size of 8 1/2 x 11 and to get my journaling on there. It isn't my usual style, but I like it.
I know it has been a while, my Peeps! There's been lots of stuff going on, but not much mojo... until a recent retreat where I finished up 17 layouts!!! (OK, 2 of them just needed finishing touches, but another one was FOUR pages! So I'd call it even!) Here's a quick one about my puppy... who is a year old now. The map paper was the very first thing that I cut out with my new circle punch. And the car die is really old, but just perfect in some cases... I used some silver Zing embossing powder and an embossing pen to get the grill and bumper and had a ball with cheap foam stickers for this layout.
My mom is having her hip replaced. It is hitting me pretty hard; it took me most of this year to finally accept that she is "officially" a senior citizen. Now she needs a new hip??? NO WAY! She's way too young for that!!! So, my Peeps, I handle it like most everything else that comes my way.... with humor. You needed the back-story to fully appreciate the card. So there it is. Forgive me Mummy for outing your surgery, but the more prayers the better, don'tcha think? I used one of my two Julie Nutting doll stamps. This is my first attempt at a "mixed media doll" and I just LOVE HER!!! The real lace at the bottom of her skirt just made me fall head over heels. I'm already plotting a layout using one (both, or maybe getting a third????) of my doll stamps on it. (Yes I did stamp the skirt in three different directions to keep it from being all one-dimensional! And while it is a single layer, I had to stamp the shirt three times to get one that had the "right" pattern of roses.) And the sentiment is a pop-up.... which makes it even more fun! I took an on-line class in mixed-media techniques for scrapbooking. As with everything, I'm sure that practicing is important... but I even like the raw attempts. However, you can't actually SEE any of the texture paste underneath the watercolors... the only texture provided is from the collage effect of the pieces. I do like the texture paste. I just need to add drier paper pulp to it next time. Here's the recipe:
I love this picture. It's from our trip to Holland, Michigan, to see the tulips on Mother's Day. This was my favorite non-family-member picture from the day (from a choice of >100 pictures!!!). No, darling Peeps, I didn't go crazy with the camera! What were you thinking??? :o) |
